The science of reading has dominated discussions as educators search for an instructional approach to strengthen students’ reading skills and help them catch up from pandemic-related learning loss. Not a program or curriculum, the science of reading is based on research from a number of fields that sheds light on how children best learn to read, spanning phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
